Q. Does each vlan need its own static route with a next-hop set as the gateway router for its zone..
A. No.. If you have only on uplink port going to your GW , you can specify one static route destination 0.0.0.0/0 to that next-hop
i.e :
set routing-options static route 0.0.0.0/0 next-hop x.x.x.x/x
Regarding daisychain , it's all about configuring the LLDP protocol and the trunk port(uplink) which is connecting both switches togather .
i.e :
after configuring this statement :
set protocols lldp interface all
and the trunk port with all vlans , you can review the other connected switches :
SW> show lldp neighbors
Regarding taking off the switch and placing it to its proper place in the server rack.. I cannot be sure of my answer.. This could be because you've not placed the cables right as they were before.. check the uplink cable where it is connected and if you ping between the other connected switch .
